Luit Trails

About Luit Trails

Luit Trails is an independent, free travel guide to Assam that covers every one of the state’s 35 districts — not only Kaziranga, Majuli and Guwahati, but also places such as Dhubri, Hailakandi, Dima Hasao and South Salmara-Mankachar that most guides skip. Luit is the Assamese name for the Brahmaputra, the river that ties the whole state together.

For each district the guide lists the main places to see (173 in all), the best months to visit, and how to get there by air, train and road from Guwahati, with a map link for every place.

How the guide is written

All the text was written for this site. Facts are checked against Assam Tourism, district administration websites, Wikipedia and other public sources. Distances and travel times are approximate, measured by road from Guwahati.

Things change — train timings, flights to small airports, national park opening dates and road conditions — so please confirm these before you travel. The travel tips page covers seasons, permits and safety for the whole state.

Photos

Every photograph comes from Wikimedia Commons and is used under a free licence (CC BY, CC BY-SA, CC0 or public domain). The photographer and licence are shown on each photo, and the photo credits page lists all 135 of them with links to the originals. Where no suitable free photo exists, the site shows a drawn icon instead.

Independent and non-commercial

Luit Trails is not an official Government of Assam or Assam Tourism website, and it has no paid listings, sponsored places or affiliate links. It has no login, no forms and no tracking, and stores no personal data.
